Forest Friends

In the quiet forest lived Wolf and Fox. They knew each other well.

Wolf's den was by the old oak tree. Fox's burrow was hidden under twisted roots nearby. Every morning, Wolf would step outside and stretch his big gray paws.

"Good morning, Fox!" Wolf would call out in his friendly voice.

Fox would poke his red head out from his burrow. "Morning, Wolf," he'd say, looking right at him. Sometimes his dark eyes would narrow just a little, with a knowing smile.

Both Wolf and Fox were hunters. They caught rabbits and birds in the forest. Sometimes, when hunting was poor, they would sneak to the farmer's yard for chickens or eggs.

Wolf was simple and honest. What he thought showed on his face. When he was pleased, he wagged his tail. When he was worried, his ears drooped.

Fox was clever and sly. He knew things Wolf didn't notice. He saw opportunities everywhere. His mind was always working, always planning something.
