Little Rabbit's paws made soft

thump-thump

sounds on the mossy forest path. The morning smelled of sweet pine and damp earth. His whiskers twitched happily as he hopped toward the berry patch.

From behind a thick oak, yellow eyes watched. Wolf's stomach growled quietly.

If I chase him, he'll bolt like lightning. But if I'm clever...

A slow smile spread across his snout.

"Good morning, little friend!" Wolf stepped out, tail wagging like a friendly dog.

Rabbit froze. His heart hammered against his ribs. "Oh! H-hello, Mr. Wolf." His voice came out squeaky.

"You seem nervous," Wolf said, tilting his head with fake concern.

"I'm afraid of everything," Rabbit admitted, ears drooping. "Even... even you."

Wolf's eyes gleamed.

Perfect.

"How terrible! Especially with the Huge Beast lurking in these woods."

"Beast?" Rabbit's pink nose quivered.

"Why, hasn't anyone warned you? It hunts rabbits!"
