The Hungry Cell
The bloodstream was bustling as usual, with Tril riding the current like a pro. He weaved past a cluster of red blood cells, cheerfully calling out, “Keep up the good work, everyone!”
Tril loved his job, carrying oxygen to cells. It made him feel important, like a hero saving the day one breath at a time. But today, something unusual caught his attention.
“Help!” a faint voice called. Tril slowed down and squinted ahead. A cell, round and soft, sat drooping on the side of a capillary. Its membrane sagged as though it were too tired to hold itself together.
“Are you okay?” Tril asked, paddling closer.
The cell groaned. “Not really. I’m starving! I haven’t had enough glucose, and I’m running out of energy.”
Tril tilted his head. “Glucose? Isn’t that the energy stuff? Where’s it supposed to come from?”
“Food,” the cell explained weakly. “It’s absorbed into the bloodstream after digestion. But for some reason, none has reached me.”
Tril puffed up his membrane. “Say no more — I’ll find some glucose for you! Sit tight.”
The cell gave him a weak smile. “Thank you. But hurry. I don’t know how much longer I can keep working like this.”
With a determined nod, Tril turned and dove deeper into the bloodstream, ready to solve the mystery. Where was the glucose, and why wasn’t it arriving? His new mission had begun.
