Betty's Big Idea
Beaver Betty sat by her cozy dam home, watching the morning sun sparkle on the forest pond. Her whiskers twitched with excitement as a wonderful idea popped into her head.
"I know!" she said, clapping her small paws together. "I'll bake cookies for all my friends in Numberwood!"
Betty loved to bake, and her kitchen was perfect for it. She had a little wood-burning oven that her father had built, and shelves lined with jars of flour, sugar, and spices.
But first, she needed to count how many friends would want cookies. Betty tapped her paw as she thought of each one: "There's Fox Felix, Deer Diana, Rabbit Ruby, Squirrel Sam, Owl Oliver, Chipmunk Charlie, Hedgehog Hannah, and Raccoon Rita. That's... let me count again... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 friends!"
Betty nodded with satisfaction. Eight friends meant she needed to make plenty of delicious cookies. She rolled up her sleeves and got ready to start the biggest baking adventure Numberwood had ever seen!
