A Chat with the Muscle Cell

info-banner

Tril floated lazily through the bloodstream, enjoying the gentle current carrying him along. It had been a busy day, and he was ready for a bit of rest himself. Just as he drifted around a bend, he spotted Musky, a muscle cell, lounging with his eyes closed.

"Hey, Musky! Taking a break?" Tril asked, settling beside him.

Musky cracked one eye open and chuckled. "Yup. Gotta grab these rare moments of peace, Tril. Muscles like me don’t get to relax too often."

Tril laughed. "Must be nice to get a bit of a nap! I just go with the flow most of the time."

Musky sighed, stretching slightly. "Lucky you, Tril. I’d join you… but wait—" Suddenly, Musky tensed up. "Uh-oh, here comes the call!"

"The call?" Tril asked, confused.

Just then, Musky’s muscles tightened as he started working, holding an invisible weight. "That’s an impulse from a nerve cell—a little zap that tells me it’s time to move!"

Tril’s eyes widened. "A zap? Just like that? So, the nerve cells tell you when to work?"

"Exactly," Musky replied, flexing and straining. "Nerve cells are like messengers. They send electric signals, telling us what to do. This one says it’s go-time!"

Tril watched in awe as Musky continued working, his muscles moving with precision and power. "Wow, I had no idea nerve cells were so powerful!"

"Oh, you have no idea, Tril," Musky chuckled. "Maybe you should go find one to talk to—they’re quite the zappy bunch!"
