The Routine Flight
Ava, with her short, curly hair always in a bit of a jumble, was no ordinary teenager. At 16, she was already a seasoned spaceship pilot, zipping through the cosmos in her trusty ship, Starbound. Unlike the school buses or bikes her peers back on Earth might use, Ava's ride was a sleek, silver vessel, ready to tackle the vastness of space.
"Alright, Starbound, let's get you ready for another adventure," Ava chirped, her voice bouncing off the metal walls of the hangar. Her preparation routine was a dance she had mastered over countless trips: checking the fuel levels, ensuring the cargo hold was secure, and of course, talking to Starbound as if it were an old friend.
"Fuel? Check. Supplies? Check. Playlist for the journey? Double-check!" Ava said, ticking off her mental checklist. Her trips were often solitary, with only the stars and planets for company, but she never felt lonely. The hum of the engines and the twinkling of distant galaxies were her companions.
As Starbound sailed smoothly through space, Ava settled into the pilot's seat, her favorite fuzzy blanket wrapped around her shoulders. She gazed out at the sea of stars, each one a story waiting to be told. "Just you and me, Starbound. Let's see what the universe has in store for us today," she mused, a small smile playing on her lips.
Hours into the flight, while sipping her third cup of hot chocolate, Ava spotted something odd on the radar. "Huh, what's that?" she muttered, leaning closer. It was not uncommon to find space debris or lost satellites, but this blip was different. Curiosity piqued, Ava steered Starbound toward the mysterious object.
Floating amidst the backdrop of space, the object seemed to dance gently in zero gravity. It was an egg, but not just any egg. This was unlike anything Ava had seen before; its surface shimmered with colors that seemed to change when viewed from different angles.
"Wow, a space egg? Or is it some kind of cosmic artifact?" Ava wondered aloud, her imagination running wild with possibilities. Deciding it was too interesting to leave behind, she carefully maneuvered Starbound to retrieve it.
Once the egg was safely aboard, Ava couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. "This isn't just any routine flight, is it, Starbound?" she said, gazing at the egg with wide eyes. "Well, mystery egg, it looks like it's just you, me, and the stars now. Let's see where this journey takes us," she said, her voice filled with anticipation and a hint of wonder.
